Filming "How To" Videos...

A couple of months ago, I was contacted by SheKnows.com and asked to do some gardening "How To" videos.

I was honored that they asked me and we set the date for them to come out to my garden and film 10 "How To" segments.

We spent a few days getting the garden looking its best and I was looking forward to filming.

I worked to get all the props ready ahead of time and my sister, Jennifer and mother showed up early to give me their support.

I must confess that I was a little bit nervous.  You see, I have been a featured speaker for gardening seminars, but my only experience in front of the camera was home videos.

The producer, director and camera person showed up and decided on the different locations in the garden where they would film.

Then they worked on the lighting and audio, while I tried to stay calm before shooting the "How To Repot a Plant" segment.

Unfortunately, it hasn't been warm long enough for my Bermuda grass to green up all the way yet.

I had made my own 'cue cards' for each segment so I wouldn't forget any important points.

Sometimes, we had to shoot a segment twice, like this one "How to Start Seeds Indoors".

I had a microphone clipped on and was connected to the camera.  So, I couldn't move from where I was.  My husband took away and brought props for each segment.  He was my 'personal assistant' for the day - I was so blessed!

In this photo, it looks like I am doing a commercial for insecticidal soap.  I was actually showing products that help control houseplant pests.

Now it was my husband's turn.  I did the voice over and my husband prepared to dig the hole for the "How to Dig a Perfect Hole" segment.

I happen to think he looks great from behind ;-)

The aftermath of the "Understanding Soil Amendments" and the "How To Plant a Herb Container" segments.

This is just some of the equipment that the professionals from SheKnows.com brought.  They were so great to work with.

I had a great time, but after 4 1/2 hours of standing and filming, I was ready for it to end.

My husband took the whole family out to dinner to Freddy's and I splurged on french fries & a Heath Bar sundae.

It was a great way to end the day!

I'm so bummed I wasn't able to make it but I figure that the crew wouldn't want a couple of "extras" in the segments. I know you did a fabulous job and can't wait to see the results!

How exciting for you Noelle. I'm sure the segments turned out great. How wonderful that your DH was your personal assistant and that you had a nice celebratory dinner afterwards.

Have a great weekend and a wonderful Easter.

Love how colorful that apron is. Can't wait to see the how-to vid. I need some of those household products. I have a bad habit of buying plants from the grocery...
